Christmas is 5 days away and I couldn't feel less in the "Christmas spirit".
You would think that with the bulk of school and work out of the way
I would be all geared up for a wonderful holiday and full of Christmas Cheer.
False.
You see, I think the problem is that feeling the Christmas spirit isn't a given
as soon as the Christmas holiday officially starts on that blackest of Fridays
...if anything, black Friday day is the antithesis of the entire Christmas season
...ironic that we kick the holiday off in such a manner.
The spirit of CHRISTmas is really the spirit of Christ.
And if He is not a part of our lives then we can't really fully enjoy the holiday.
I've been a little lackadaisical in my relationship with Him as of late
...and tonight it is more than apparent.
You might dare call me a Scrooge.
I wish we could step back and truly enjoy the company of one another
and not focus on the presents, which is something I get REALLY
caught up in.
I want to find the perfect, heartfelt gift to give to a loved one.
Some might mistakenly think this is a very good thing
and that I'm feeling an abundance of the Christmas Spirit.
False.
You see I get so caught up in the gift that I forget the reason for the season
and forget to give a gift to Him whose birth we are celebrating.
Thus missing out on the full measure of the spirit of Christmas.
Potential gifts to give to Him:
showing kindness to strangers
showing kindness to loved ones, which may be slightly more difficult at times
conversing with Him...something I've let slide a little as of late
helping those less fortunate
forgiving
being patient
telling others about Him
the list goes on and on you see,
so there is no shortage of gifts to be given.
I will amend my previous statement that
"feeling the Christmas spirit isn't a given as soon as the Christmas holiday officially starts..."
to:
feeling the Christmas spirit isn't a given as soon as the Christmas holiday officially starts
but
it can be felt at anytime throughout the year
as soon as we let ourselves
...love.
Tis' the season,
it is my renewed goal to make
THE SEASON
last all year 'round
...as it should.
Merry Christmas all.
